Belize City is the most important city in Belize, and the most populated.

Belize City is the former capital of Belize  until 1971 when it moved to Belmopan, after several hurricanes, including Hattie. But even when it is not the capital anymore, it is still the most important city.

Belize City has a real Caribbean City flavor, has old wood buildings, but some of them are kept really nice. It has a strong British colonial influence, as you can hardly see in continental Latin America. It is a slow pace city, with no chain restaurants or Hotels (with very few exceptions) and no big malls. But it has a great market and many commercial stores where you can find most things.
