But as always some other classifications can be made:

Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica were part of the same country during colonial times, therefore in the region, many times are refered are the only countries on Central America.

Belize has a history of regional dispute between Guatemala, and it's history is, in many ways, very distant from the rest of the region. Belize is the only country in Central America where English is the official language.

Panama's history is more related with Colombia and the United States (because of the Panama Canal) than with the rest of Central America.

Integration efforts, including the elimination of passports for citizens of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua has been made also.

Central America Map / from CIA Factbook Most Airlines travel to the region, mostly by El Salvador (Comalapa International Airport, SAV), Costa Rica (Juan Santamaria International Airport, SJO) and Panama (Tocumen International, PTY), and from there to the rest of Cental America. But there are also International Airports in Guatemala (La Aurora International Airport, GUA and Mundo Maya International Airport, FRS, also known as Flores International), Honduras (Toncontín International Airport, TGU, Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport near San Pedro Sula, SAP, and Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (Roatán International), RTB) , Nicaragua (Managua International Airport, MGA), and Belize (Philip S.W. Goldson International, BZE) to name a few. Most traffic in the area is handled by TACA (includes all Aviateca, TACA, LACSA planes and flights) and COPA.
